Template Letter for Physicians About American Heart Association's OAT Recommendation
The American Heart Association (AHA) recently published a scientific statement that highlighted the high prevalence of OSA among patients with cardiovascular disease. Because CPAP adherence is low, the AHA recommended oral appliance therapy for patients with mild-to-moderate OSA and for those who cannot tolerate CPAP. The AADSM has drafted a template letter that can be used to send to physicians, informing them of this scientific statement.
Template Letter to Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons
Customize this template letter and send it to oral and maxillofacial surgeons in your area to encourage them to screen their surgical candidates for OSA. Additional screening for OSA can benefit the millions of people who are undiagnosed and generate referrals to your practice.
This compilation of studies supporting oral appliance therapy is a tool to help you build relationships with physicians. Each page includes a study summary with the citation, a brief explanation of why the research results are important, a web link to access the study online, and key research highlights.
This packet can be attached to introductory letters, used as a handout during meetings with local physicians, or sent as a follow-up to collaborating physicians.
