Intro to Oral Appliances for Sleep Apnea

Intro to Oral Appliances for Sleep Apnea is a new AADSM educational offering geared towards dentists who are new to dental sleep medicine. This virtual course was held as a live, educational activity on December 9-10, 2022 and includes 8 hours of lecture from an expert faculty who introduce dentists to the treatment of oral appliance therapy to manage obstructive sleep apnea. The course was recorded and will soon be available on-demand. Those who did not register for the live course can purchase access to the recordings.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of the course, attendees will be able to:

  1. Explain the complexity and health implications of sleep-related breathing disorders and a dentist’s role in managing sleep-related breathing disorders;
  2. Describe demographics, pre-deposing factors, signs and symptoms, and co-morbidities of sleep-related breathing disorders and various techniques to identify patients at risk;
  3. Implement clinical strategies to incorporate evidence-based oral appliance therapies into a dental practice; and
  4. Establish an effective screening protocol and physician referral network supported by inner office systems to streamline and document referrals.
