AADSM Mastery Program
About
The AADSM Mastery Program is a comprehensive, clinically-focused and evidence-based education program limited to dentists, that provides dentists with the necessary training and skills they need to provide oral appliance therapy to patients who suffer from obstructive sleep apnea and snoring. Upon completion of the program, dentists will have the competence and confidence to provide oral appliance therapy and build relationships with patients, physicians, and payers. The 2023 AADSM Mastery Program is comprised of two courses: Mastery 1 and Mastery 2 and offers over 100 credit hours of continuing education combined.

Notify Me When Mastery 2 Registration Opens
In 2023, Mastery 1 will be offered virtually and Mastery 2 will be offered virtually with a required, in-person component called the Mastery 2 Practical Workshop. Overviews of each of the courses can be found below by clicking on either the Mastery 1 or Mastery 2 logo. Each course includes pre-recorded lectures and demonstration videos (where appropriate) and an online discussion board. Mastery 1 includes two live, virtual Q&A sessions with the faculty and Mastery 2 includes two pre-recorded Q&A sessions. The Mastery 2 Practical Workshop includes roundtable case-based discussions, participation in clinic-based comprehensive examinations, digital and analogue impressions, construction bite acquisition and device delivery. The AADSM Mastery Program requires several Clinical Competency assignments that require patient interaction. Registered attendees will receive detailed instructions regarding these assignments. Important Deadlines
Those participating in the AADSM Mastery Program should make note of the following deadlines, based on when they registered.
If you registered for Mastery 2 in 2022:
- December 1, 2023 - deadline to complete Mastery 2, including the two patient cases for Mastery 2 (for both the virtual and in-person course), if you do not intend to sit for the 2023 ABDSM exam
If you register in 2023:
- March 29, 2024 - deadline to complete Mastery 2, including the Mastery 2 Practical Workshop and two patient cases to be eligible to sit for the 2024 ABDSM exam
- June 28, 2024 - deadline to complete Mastery 1 and Mastery 2, including the two patient cases for Mastery 2, if you do not intend to sit for the 2024 ABDSM exam
- September 29, 2023 - deadline to complete Mastery 1 to attend the Mastery 2 Practical Workshop on October 21-22, 2023

**The AADSM does not offer payment plans for the AADSM Mastery Program. Credit cards are charged for the full registration fee at the time of registration.
Not a member? Nonmembers can become members for the same cost as registering as a nonmember for Mastery 1 and save more than the cost of membership when registering for Mastery 2 or both Mastery Courses.

Dates and Registration
Mastery 1 and Mastery 2 include pre-recorded lectures, on-demand, in the AADSM Online Learning Center during the below course completion windows, so you can access the recorded lectures when it works best for you. The end dates listed for each course completion window below are the deadlines in which each course must be completed, if you register in 2023. You will not lose access to course content in the AADSM Online Learning Center after you complete each course. Your credit card will be charged the full registration fee at the time of registration.
2023 Mastery 1
Registration Window: Now – December 31, 2023
Course Completion Deadline: June 28, 2024*
*Note: If you register for Mastery 2 in 2023 you must complete Mastery 1 at least three weeks prior to attending the Mastery 2 Practical Workshop (i.e., by September 29, 2023 if you are attending the workshop on October 21-22, 2023).
Access to Mastery 1 is not immediate upon registration. Please allow 1-2 business days to receive an email from mastery@aadsm.org with information on how to access the course in the AADSM Online Learning Center.

Course Completion Deadline: March 29, 2024 (if sitting for the 2024 ABDSM exam) or June 28, 2024 (if not sitting for the 2024 ABDSM exam)
Completion of Mastery 1 is required to participate in Mastery 2.
New for 2023! Those who register for Mastery 2 in 2023 will be required to attend the Mastery 2 Practical Workshop. This weekend-long workshop is only offered in-person and serves as an experiential supplement to the pre-recorded lectures provided in Mastery 2. Registration for the workshop is included in the Mastery 2 registration fee.
The remaining Mastery 2 Practical Workshop will take place on Saturday, October 21 - Sunday, October 22, 2023. This workshop is sold out.
Participants are strongly encouraged to complete the Mastery 2 recorded lectures before attending the in-person Mastery 2 Practical Workshop, however it is not required.
The workshops will take place at the University of Illinois Chicago College of Dentistry in downtown Chicago, IL. Attendees must be present for the duration of the workshop; partial attendance will not be permitted. Availability is limited and on a first-come, first-served basis.

Question and Answer Sessions
Cancelation and Transfer Policy
The AADSM reserves the right to cancel a course and provide a full refund should conditions warrant. The refund will only include the cost of registration for the course.
For 2022 registrations, no refunds will be available. Refunds are not provided to those who do not complete each course by the stated deadline. Transfers are not possible.
For 2023 Mastery 1 or Mastery 2 registrations, a $150 administrative fee will be withheld on cancelations postmarked on or prior to February 3, 2023. To cancel a registration, written notification must be submitted to the AADSM at mastery@aadsm.org by the applicable date listed below. After February 3, 2023, no refunds will be available. Refunds are not provided to those who do not complete each course by the stated deadline. Transfers are not possible.
Refunds will not be applied to the original payment source (i.e., credit card). Any refunds processed by the AADSM will be paid by check to individuals in the US (or e-payment to individuals who chose to set up an account in Bill.com) and by wire transfer to individuals outside of the US.
Weather Cancelation Policy
In the event that a registrant is unable to attend a course due to severe weather forcing airline cancelations or airport closures, the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine will apply 50 percent of the individual’s registration fees toward another AADSM course (excluding the AADSM Annual Meeting) held within 12 months. Registrants will need to provide documentation from the airport or airline confirming the inability to travel due to severe weather within 30 days following the course. The American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine will not apply this policy to the AADSM Annual Meeting, as the length and nature of the meeting allows for registrants to attend a portion of the event regardless of severe weather.

COVID-19 Warning
An inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 exists in any public place where people are present. COVID-19 is an extremely contagious disease that can lead to severe illness and death. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, senior citizens and attendees with underlying medical conditions are especially vulnerable.
Please make sure that you have reviewed any advisories or restrictions that may be in place for travel to the location in which the Mastery 2 Practical Workshop will be held. By attending an AADSM course in-person, you voluntarily assume all risks related to exposure to COVID-19 and you are confirming that you have not been in contact with someone with confirmed or suspected COVID-19 symptoms, are not under any self-quarantine orders, and are not experiencing any of the symptoms of COVID-19 identified by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention at CDC.gov. Participants should review CDC guidelines for public meetings and are expected to adhere to all local, state and federal regulations concerning COVID-19
AADSM Code of Conduct
Please click here to review the AADSM’s official guidelines and requirements for behavior in an AADSM meeting. All course participants must observe all AADSM standards at all times. Violations of this code are taken seriously and may in the sole discretion of AADSM to actions including, but not limited to ending the participation in a course or future AADSM meetings or trainings.
Informed Consent for Mastery 2 Practical Workshop
I understand it is my choice to participate in the clinical skills taught, performed and/or demonstrated on course participants and faculty. Clinical skills include comprehensive examination, full arch impressions, bite registration, and oral appliance delivery.
Should I choose to participate:
- I hereby release the AADSM and their agents, representatives and assigns from any responsibility or liability for any injury, illness, reactions, or damages arising from my participation.
- I consent to be interviewed about my health conditions and have an exam and consultation as part of the Mastery 2 Practical Workshop, which will be presented before course participants and faculty.
- I certify that I have read the contents of this informed consent, am aware of the benefits or potential harms from my participation in the clinical skills given my training in dental sleep medicine and will comply with any applicable dental licensure laws and/or equivalent laws.
- I understand that it is my right to discontinue my participation in the clinical skills at any time. However, should I choose to do so, my attendance for the duration of the workshop in the form of observation is still required.
- I recognized that AADSM has advised me to review my professional liability coverage to make sure that it includes coverage for training and educational activities sponsored by the AADSM.

AADSM, as the course provider, and the course instructors will follow all applicable standards for patient consent and protection during the training. As a course participant, you should be aware of the ADA CERP standards (specifically Standard XIII. Patient Protection) that AADSM, the course instructors and you as a participant are expected to follow.
If you register for Mastery 2 in 2023, Mastery 1 must be completed by the following deadlines to attend the Mastery 2 Practical Workshop:
- July 7, 2023 - deadline to complete Mastery 1 to attend the workshop on July 29-30, 2023
- September 29, 2023 - deadline to complete Mastery 1 to attend the workshop on October 21-22, 2023
The AADSM is not responsible for any travel related expenses incurred to attend the workshop should a participant be unable to complete Mastery 1 by the above stated deadline and therefore be ineligible to attend the workshop.

Dress Code
The dress code for in-person courses is business casual.
Photography/Recording
Photography and/or recording of any kind (other than by the AADSM) of sessions or speakers is strictly prohibited. No cameras or recording devices will be allowed in the meeting rooms at any time. Violation of this rule could result in the confiscation of the film or recording device and removal of the individual from the meeting
Teaching Method
Mastery 1 and Mastery 2 are comprised of recorded lectures, demonstration videos, and self-instructional activities throughout each course. Mastery 1 includes discussion during two live designated Q&A sessions. The in-person Mastery 2 Practical Workshop is comprised of lectures followed by discussion and clinically-based activities.
Continuing Education
The AADSM is an ADA CERP Recognized Provider. ADA CERP is a service of the American Dental Association to assist dental professionals in identifying quality providers of continuing dental education. ADA CERP does not approve or endorse individual courses or instructors, nor does it imply acceptance of credit hours by boards of dentistry. The AADSM designates the 2022 Mastery Program for 93.75 continuing education credits and the 2023 Mastery Program for 109.75 continuing education credits.
Note: The AADSM provides unbiased, standardized education and therefore does not reference any specific appliance or other product or service during its educational courses. Attendees of the AADSM Mastery Program will instead become familiar with the Mastery Nomenclature for Device Classification.
