The AADSM’s recent position statement and consensus recommendations for therapeutic positioning both suggest that it is appropriate for qualified dentists to order and administer HSAT and use HSAT to determine the therapeutic position of an appliance. The Emerging Concepts: Ordering and Administering HSAT Course will consist of lectures and interactive demonstrations that will provide dentists with the information they need to confidently order or administer home sleep apnea tests (HSATs). Learn more about the AADSM’s Position on the Scope of Practice for Dentists Ordering or Administering Home Sleep Apnea Tests.
The Emerging Concepts: Ordering and Administering HSAT Course will take place in-person, December 4-5, 2021. All companies are welcome to apply; however, companies that dispense HSAT equipment will benefit from exhibiting the most.
On Sunday, December 5 from 8:00 AM-12:30 PM, attendees will breakout into six small groups and rotate between various HSAT stations. Available on a first- come, first-served basis, six exhibiting HSAT companies (including pulse ox companies) will be able to participate in these interactive demonstrations. Companies performing the demonstrations must be HSAT equipment manufacturers.
These stations are educational in nature and will allow attendees to evaluate key differences in commercially available HSATs and familiarize themselves with the data provided on HSAT reports. Each station will be led by a faculty member and one company representative who will work together to review specific details established by the course chairs, including device set up, application of leads, tips for patient success, review of reports, etc.
Each HSAT company that participates in Sunday’s demonstrations will also be responsible for providing their own equipment (quantities will be determined by the AADSM depending on the number of registered attendees, prior to the course).
The maximum number of attendees is 240. Exhibit space is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.
The AADSM is also hosting a Mastery 2 in-person, November 3-7, 2021 at the same hotel in New Orleans, which will include an exhibit hall. Discounted pricing is available to companies who exhibit at both courses. Please see below for more information regarding pricing.
Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY): 15 miles from hotel

The AADSM will be taking enhanced health and safety measures. All attendees must follow posted instructions while in attendance.
An inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 exists in any public place where people are present. COVID-19 is an extremely contagious disease that can lead to severe illness and death. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, senior citizens and attendees with underlying medical conditions are especially vulnerable.
Please make sure that you have reviewed any advisories or restrictions that may be in place for travel to New Orleans. Visit https://ready.nola.gov/incident/coronavirus/ for information. By participating in the Emerging Concepts: Ordering and Administering HSAT Course in-person, you voluntarily assume all risks related to exposure to COVID-19.
As of September 30, the New Orleans Health Department has imposed several restrictions related to COVID-19. Everyone, regardless of vaccination status, is required to wear a mask indoors when with people who are not in their immediate household; this includes the New Orleans Marriott where the Emerging Concepts course will be held. As such, Emerging Concepts course attendees and exhibitors will be required to wear a mask throughout the hotel, including all meeting space for the duration of the course, unless seated and actively eating or drinking.
Additionally, attendees and exhibitors should be aware that proof of vaccination or a negative PCR test within 72 hours is required for indoor New Orleans restaurants and entertainment businesses. Although proof of vaccination or a negative PCR test within 72 hours is not required to enter the course meeting space or stay at the New Orleans Marriott, it is required to access the hotel’s restaurant, bar or fitness center.
The hotel front desk may ask for proof and provide a separate-colored key card to provide access to these amenities. For those who are unable to provide proof of vaccination or a negative PCR test results within the last 72 hours, food and beverage at the New Orleans Marriott will only be available to go.
The citations for not following these requirements may result in a misdemeanor citation and a fine up to $500 or six months in jail. Further updates regarding safety measures that the AADSM will be implementing at the course will be provided to attendees and exhibitors as the course nears.
